This Privacy Policy describes how Canary Data Inc. ("Canary," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with:
The Site, the App, and the API are collectively the "Services." Access to the App and the API requires a paid subscription and an authorized user account.
By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
This Policy applies to personal information that Canary collects as a controller — that is, information we collect about visitors, prospects, and authorized users of our Services.
It does not apply to data that our customers submit to or process through the App or API in the course of using our product (for example, investment research, documents, watchlists, queries, or other content uploaded or generated by the customer) ("Customer Content"). With respect to Customer Content, Canary acts as a processor on behalf of its customer, and the customer's agreement with Canary (including any Data Processing Addendum) governs how that data is handled. If you are an end user of a customer account and have questions about Customer Content, please contact your organization's administrator.
Information you provide on the Site. When you contact us via the Site (for example, the "Contact Us" form or by emailing us), we collect the information you choose to share, such as your name, business email, company, role, and the contents of your message.
Account information for the App and API. When you (or your organization's administrator) create or manage a user account, we collect information such as your name, work email address, employer, job title, hashed password, multi-factor authentication factors, API credentials, and account preferences.
Billing and subscription information. When your organization purchases a subscription, we collect the information needed to administer the contract, such as billing contact, billing address, tax identifiers, and invoice history. Payment card details are submitted directly to our third-party payment processor and are not stored by Canary.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site or use the App or API, we and our service providers automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, approximate location, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages or endpoints accessed, request/response metadata, error logs, timestamps, and authentication events. We use this information to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Services and to maintain audit logs.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on the Site and the App to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure traffic, and improve performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality (for example, the App requires cookies for authentication).
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
We may use third-party analytics tools to understand how visitors and users interact with the Site and the App. These tools collect information sent by your device, such as pages visited and aggregate usage data, on our behalf. You can typically opt out via your browser or the analytics provider's opt-out tools.
We retain personal information only for as long as needed to provide the Services, fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, comply with legal and tax obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Account and audit log records are typically retained for the duration of the subscription and for a reasonable period afterward. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, authentication, and logging. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to or stored by us.
Canary operates internationally. Information we collect may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than the one in which you reside. By using the Services, you understand that your information may be processed in countries whose data protection laws may differ from those of your country.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below. If your request relates to Customer Content held in the App or API on behalf of an organization, we will refer the request to that organization, which is the controller of that data.
The Services are intended for business use by professionals and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with any information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the Services or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Services after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
